As I’ve gotten older and with my active life as a mother, I am often looking for clothing that is COMFORTABLE. The idea I used to have about fashion and style is I needed to dress up and wear heels every day. Whether to work or even on the weekends just hanging out, heels were my thing. BUT NOW I want comfort over cute. But the reality is comfort often comes across as frumpy and there’s usually no cute involved.
So I’ve just decided to put some guidelines on being COMFORTABLE that help me to still be cute while being comfy. Here are the guidelines:
- I’ve changed my perspective on what is comfortable: No matter my attire I will always strive to look my best and feel my most confident. Truth be told I am COMFORTABLE in whatever I wear and that’s because I make the decision to be. Ideally, I’d like to wear athleisure wear every day. There’s something so comfortable and cute about athletic tights and a hoodie. However, this isn’t appropriate for every environment. So instead of wearing what isn’t appropriate I wear clothing that I feel comfortable in. And that means clothing that makes me feel confident and beautiful, clothing that fits my body and isn’t too small or too big, and also clothing that can actually be versatile. Comfort is really your perception of what you believe is comfortable. So change your perspective and don’t just believe comfort is sweatpants and hoodies LOL!
- I choose to be frumpy inside the house and on the weekends: This may sound strange but I do have moments where I don’t strive to look my best. I know what I said above but there are times where I just want to be in those sweats and a hoodie. But I’ve restricted myself to only do this when I’m not leaving the house or on the weekends. For me when I’m not dressed my best it can play with how I feel. When I’m dressed frumpy I feel frumpy.
- I buy clothes that are realistic for my lifestyle: This seems so common sense, but you wouldn’t imagine how many closets I’ve been in that have clothes they know they will never wear. Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean it needs to be in your closet. Be practical about your lifestyle and also think about what makes you feel beautiful and confident. Don’t get stuck in what’s comfortable but expand your wardrobe and buy items that make you feel your best. That’s how you do CUTE and COMFY!
